Start with a wide photo of the work area, a close-up of the item or problem, the product link or model number, and a short note about access. Add measurements when you can take them safely. Those details help explain the job before a visit.
For a furniture assembly or TV mounting project in Raleigh or the Triangle, a few useful photos are a better starting point than a long message trying to describe everything.
Three useful views to send
1. Wide view
Include the work area, nearby furniture and the access route.
2. Close-up
Show the relevant detail clearly. Leave covers and parts in place.
3. Product details
Use the model number, product link or safely accessible manual.
1. Show the whole work area
Stand back and photograph the wall, room, or outdoor area where the work will happen. Include nearby furniture, doors, windows, and anything that could affect access.
For a TV installation, show the entire proposed wall and the furniture below it. For furniture assembly, show the space where the finished piece will go. For a garage door opener project, take a wide photo from a safe position on the floor.
You do not need a photo of every room in your home.
2. Add a close-up of the item or issue
Take one clear photo that shows the detail you want help with. That might be a damaged furniture panel, the hardware on an existing TV mount, or the fixture being replaced.
If the problem is hard to spot, describe its location in your message. For example: “The left drawer catches near the top.” Avoid marking over the part we need to see.
Do not remove covers, disconnect anything, or take an item apart just to get a better photo.
3. Include the product link or model number
A store link, instruction manual, or model number helps identify the exact product. A brand name alone may cover several different sizes and versions.
Useful details include:
- Furniture: the product link, number of boxes, and whether assembly has already started
- TV mounting: the TV model and screen size, plus the mount model or product link if you already have one
- Garage door opener: the current opener model, if you can read it safely, and the replacement product link if you have chosen one
- Fixture replacement: the new product link and a photo of the existing fixture from a safe position
Use the product page or paperwork when a label is out of reach. Crop out unrelated account details, order numbers, serial numbers, barcodes, or QR codes unless specifically needed later.
4. Add a few useful measurements
For assembly, share the listed finished dimensions and any tight space around the intended location. For wall-mounted items, include the item's dimensions and listed weight when available.
Write down the units, such as inches, and say when a measurement is approximate. Do not guess at a wall's construction or an item's weight. “I don't know” is useful information too.
Our furniture-fit guide and measurement worksheet can help organize dimensions. For a TV project, see the TV mount planning checks before choosing hardware.
5. Describe access and the result you want
Include your city or general area, the number of items, and what you would like completed. Mention stairs, a narrow entry, apartment access requirements, or furniture that blocks the work area.
For a first inquiry, “second-floor room with stairs” is enough. Share exact entry instructions privately when needed. Do not include gate codes, alarm codes, lockbox combinations, or times when the home will be empty in a public post.
Check privacy and safety before sending
Review the background for mail, family photos, faces, children, computer screens, and other personal information. Crop or cover anything unrelated to the work. Send project photos through a private contact channel rather than public comments.
Photos can also contain location information. If you want to remove it before sharing, check your phone's photo-sharing settings. Apple's guide explains how to manage location metadata in photos.
Take photos from a stable, accessible position. Do not climb furniture or move a heavy TV alone to find a label. For garage projects, never loosen or adjust springs, cables, pulleys, or brackets for a photo; Chamberlain warns that these components are under extreme tension. If the door appears damaged or moves unevenly, stop using it and contact a garage door professional. See Chamberlain's safety and maintenance guidance.

“I'm in [city or general area] and need help with [project]. There are [number] items. Here's the product link or model number, a wide photo, and a close-up. The work area is [access details]. I'd like [desired result].”
